Abdominoplasty helps to flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles. The best candidates have pockets of fat or loose skin that haven’t responded well to diet and exercise. The procedure can also be useful for women with stretched skin and muscles from pregnancy.
One of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S., liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat that has not responded to diet and exercise from areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, chin, cheeks, neck and upper arms. Local anesthesia or general anesthesia may be used, and the procedure can last anywhere from one to five hours depending on the amount of fat being removed.
The fat is removed via tiny incisions that usually heal inconspicuously. The fat is permanently removed.
After substantial weight loss, weight gain or simply from the effects of aging, skin on the upper arms can become inelastic, loose and flabby. Arm lifts, also known as brachioplasty, remove that excess skin and fat. Patients who have significant amounts of fat may want to consider combining the procedure with liposuction.
A thigh lift is performed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper legs. Candidates typically suffer from loose, inelastic skin after extreme weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breast lifts, facelifts and arm lifts to retain an attractive body proportion.
For patients who desire larger, fuller buttocks, fat from other parts of the body can be transferred to the buttocks, creating long lasting augmentation.
Candidates for body contouring typically suffer from loose (inelastic) skin on many or most areas of the body usually as a result of significant weight loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the procedure is often combined with others such as breast lifts, arm lifts and liposuction to retain a proper body proportion. Body contouring tightens and tones areas of loose skin on the abdomen, breasts, back, buttocks, hips and thighs. After the loose, hanging skin is removed, the patient will have a complete body makeover and newfound self-confidence.
Many women suffer from enlarged labia minora (the inner genital lips). Some may not like the appearance of their large, uneven or thick labia, which can sometimes extend beyond the vaginal opening. Others may be bothered by labial irritation while conducting normal activities, or may find it difficult to keep the labial area clean. Still others may experience pain during sexual intercourse, sports or other vigorous activities.
One of our practice's increasingly popular programs addresses the changes to the female breasts and midsection after childbirth.
After breastfeeding, the breasts can be droopy, smaller and have a deflated appearance. This can be corrected with breast augmentation and/or breast lift.
For the abdomen/midsection area, the most common concerns include the following:
- Stretch marks
- Loose abdominal skin
- Abdominal pouching or protrusion
- Abdominal fat hanging over that does not fit well into clothing.
- This can be corrected with abdominoplasty surgery, often combined with limited liposuction
